Once a year, if tides and the times of low tide allow, the Club Is privileged to be able to organise a drive on the foreshore, usually from Glen Wyllin in the west of the island, right up the west coast and round the northern tip, the Point of Ayre which being loose shingle is very challenging in itself, and then on down the east coast to Ramsey.
As a number of permissions have to be obtained well in advance of this popular event, a number of conditions are quite correctly imposed on participants , including a limit on speed and keeping well below the high tide marks.
Traditionally, after coming off the beach at Ramsey, many drive through a local ford in an endeavour to wash off sand and salt water!
The sight of seeing a large number of 4x4s driving along the beach is not often experienced , so it can draw quite a lot of attention on the day.
